YES! At Scent Work University, we understand there are two separate elements of Scent Work: Scent Work the GAME and Scent Work the SPORT. Honestly, every dog everywhere should be playing Scent Work the GAME, but only some dog and handler teams would enjoy, or would be suitable, to participate in Scent Work the SPORT.

With this in mind, we offer courses that can help everyone, from the handler who is simply looking for a way to fulfill their dog's life, to the competitor who wants to improve their trialing experience.

We completely understand your hesitation. After all, shouldn't dog training be done in person?!

In developing the courses for SWU, our goal was to provide high-quality instruction that not only provided the steps to complete a particular exercise, but would also promote the learner (you) to understand why an exercise was being done, and how adjustments could be made for each individual dog. All the courses offered at SWU are based off in-person group training courses, and we are extremely proud of our incredibly talented instructors who take great pride in being a teacher, first and foremost.

One of the biggest advantages of online dog training is you having access to so many talented instructors, regardless of where you live! Then there is the convenience factor. No longer do you have to try to squeeze a group class into your already hectic schedule. The days of rushing home from work, grabbing the dog, sitting in traffic to dash into class frazzled, stressed and worn out are a thing of the past. With SWU, you can go through the material at your own pace, and when it works best for you. By offering both a Student and Self-Taught enrollment option, SWU allows you to decide the type of experience you prefer: an intensive instructor interaction or something more relaxed and low-key. It is entirely up to you.

Online dog training is a wonderful option, and we hope SWU will provide a helpful service to as many dogs and handlers as possible!

Great question! While Scent Work University does feature a variety of highly qualified instructors who may approach the subject of Scent Work from different angles, all courses will be taught using positive reinforcement and reward-based training techniques.

For our Foundation Sniffing Program, we start the dogs off with hunting for food, otherwise known as primary, to help cement their understanding of the game, to build their drive and enthusiasm while also setting them up to succeed.

Our other programs may use a variety of reinforcers, and handlers are always urged to find and use what works best for their own individual dog.

Scent Work University concentrates on providing virtual training services, but several of our instructors do indeed offer in-person training.

If you wish to work with one of our instructors virtually, we offer video reviews and Zoom consultations.

Great question! There are a couple of different ways you can do this. The easiest is to subscribe to the SWU mailing list. We send out notifications when new courses and webinars are offered and open for enrollment.

Another option is to follow us on social media. We have a Facebook Page, Facebook Group, Instagram, LinkedIn and we are also active on YouTube.

Our webinars are typically 90 minutes in length. We occasionally offer webinars that are 45 minutes in length.

Yes! When you register for a live webinar, you will receive free and continual access to the fully edited webinar replay afterwards.

YES! We offer replay versions of all our live webinars and you may order these replays at any time.

Our courses range from a single topic with several modules, to 2, 4 and 6-week progressive courses. When you enroll in one of our online courses, you will enjoy continual access to the course material.

The cost of the course depends on the length of the course and the enrollment type.

There are two enrollment types: Student and Self-Taught.

The total cost of the course and what is included will be clearly noted on the individual course page.

This depends on the course. Each course will include both a Course Details and Course Outline section, so you can see what exactly will be covered, and if the course is good match for both you and your dog.

No! You may enroll in as many courses as you wish!

We do recommend participants who are interested in enrolling as Students limit themselves to 3 courses per dog. This will help ensure the dog does not get overwhelmed or confused.

For our online courses, Students who complete the entire course and submit the "Request Certificate" form will receive a Certificate of Completion via email.

For our online webinars, if after completing the webinar replay you submit the "Request CEUS" form, we will email you a Certificate of Completion.

A secret word will be provided during the presentation for any CEU-eligible webinars or events. Take note of the secret word, which will be needed when requesting CEUs.

If you attend the presentation live, you will be provided with a “Request CEUs” form at the end of the presentation.

If you watch the presentation as a replay, the “Request CEUs’ form can be found as the last entry in the course player.

Complete the “Request CEUs” form. If the secret word is correct, you will receive a Certificate of Completion from Scent Work University. The next steps vary by organization.

NACSW CEUs: You will upload the Certificate of Completion to the “Files” section of the NACSW instructor portal.

CPDT CEUs: Scent Work University will submit your CEUs to CPDT on your behalf.

KPA CEUs: You will receive an email from Scent Work University with an “Event Code” that you must submit through your KPA instructor account.

We want to hear from you! At the end of every course there will be a short feedback form that you may fill out. When you do, we will send you a thank you gift!

The Student enrollment option is an intensive learning experience. Students will submit videos for the instructor to review each week, and will then discuss these videos in weekly live Zoom classes. This class will be recorded and posted to the course player.

The Self-Taught enrollment option grants full and continual access to the pre-recorded course content. This allows you to go through the material at your own pace and when it works best for your schedule. This enrollment option does not include any instructor feedback. However, video reviews or Zoom consultations may be ordered separately for an additional fee at any time.

Videos will be posted to a Student Group on the Scent Work U Community site. Upon enrolling as a Student, you will receive an email with instructions outlining how to access this Student Group and submit your weekly homework and videos.

Great question! If you wish to go through a course with more than one dog, please email Dianna and she will design a custom solution for you.

Our seminars and virtual events can range in length but are typically 3 hours in length.

The length of a given seminar or virtual event will be clearly noted on the information page for that given offering.

There are many!

When you attend a live seminar, you will have the opportunity to ask the speaker questions in real-time. Additionally, you will receive free and continual access to the fully edited seminar replay.

Furthermore, attending a virtual seminar is less costly than attending in-person as there is no need for lodging, gas, food or dog boarding costs.

If you cannot attend the live seminar or miss the live event, no worries! We offer replays of all our live seminars, which you may order at any time.

For our live virtual events, these are typically roundtables with several experienced professionals. Attending live affords you the opportunity to ask all of them questions in real-time, an outstanding learning opportunity!

Unfortunately, no. Our eBooks are only available in digital format. You may download the eBook onto your device and print it out from there.

We should note, however, we do release new and updated versions of our eBooks from time-to-time. Thus, when you order an eBook, you will receive any updated versions for free!

The member discount will be automatically applied on the checkout screen.

As a Member, you will receive a reminder email 1 day and 1 hour before any live member-only events. Click the link provided in the email to join the live event and participate in the chat.

No. As with all dog training services, the results hinge on a multitude of variables. These include the physical and behavioral status of the dog as well as the frequency, consistency and proficiency in which the training is conducted. It would be unethical and improper for SWU to guarantee results for any of our courses.

You will have full and continual access to any of the online courses, seminars, webinars or eBooks you enroll in.

This means there are no deadlines, cut-off dates or expiration dates to worry about. You may go through the material as often and for as long as you wish.

The wonderful thing about enjoying continual access to your enrollments is you can go through the material multiple times. This includes the webinar replays.

Scent Work University site: this is where you enrollments are hosted.

Scent Work U Community site: this is where we host the Community, Monthly Challenge, Student Groups and Member Hub.

These two websites do not talk to one another. You cannot use your Scent Work University login credentials for the Scent Work U Community site.
