AKC: Working Water Hides Course Instructor Natalie McManus Get your dog familiar with working water hides to prepare for the upper level AKC Buried classes.

In AKC Scent Work, the Buried class has undergone some major changes, all of which are slated to go into effect October 1, 2019. The most major change involves having dogs work water hides in the upper levels of competition.

In this 6-week course, we will walk you through how to introduce the concept of working water hides to your dog as well as how to prepare for the upper levels of the AKC Scent Work Buried class. All of this will be achieved while focusing on having FUN with your dog!

Prerequisites

Dog must be familiar hunting for at least one novel odor (ie. Birch, Anise and/or Clove).

Introducing Water Hides
Aging Water Hides

What You Will Need

your dog
flat or martingale collar
6'-8' leash
10'-15' long line
LOTS of high-value and smelly treats
crate or area you can stage your dog in while setting up your searches
at least 8 tubs (approx 16x11x7)
at least 8 grids to cover the tubs
at least 8 suction cups with clips
at least 8 opaque scent vessels
AKC strength odor q-tips. All 4 odors recommended, but could start with Birch only.
