As instructors, it is our duty to identify and meet the needs of both our human and canine clients. To do so, we should leverage our expertise, past experience and observation skills. When it comes to our human clients, we must also take into account their goals, history, emotional needs and how they best receive and retain information.

The key questions we must pose include:

  • What type of personality do they have?
  • How does their personality compliment or conflict with yours?
  • What training experience or history do they have?
  • How would you rate their mechanical and observational skills?
  • What type of relationship do they have with their dog?
  • Are they social, quiet, interactive, reserved, etc?
  • What are short and long-term goals? Are these realistic and attainable?
  • What catches and retains their attention?
  • How do they interact with the other human and canine clients?
  • What motivates, excites, worries or frustrates the human client?

In this seminar, we will highlight ways instructors can better assess their new and current human clients and what to consider when devising possible training plans and solutions.

IMPORTANT: This seminar is designed to build off the foundation covered in the Teaching Scent Work Seminar.
