People will oftentimes ask, "Does online dog training really work?". We are happy to report that yes, online dog training does indeed work. There are a couple of reasons why:
Participants may easily refer back to the course material.
With an online course, you may go through a course multiple times. With Scent Work University, you are also able view the course material on a variety of devices - desktop computers, mobile devices and tablets. This means you may listen to the instructor's directions and tips immediately before, during and after doing the actual exercise with your dog! Better still, all participants have access to the course material regardless of the enrollment option they choose.
Course material is detailed and designed to reach as many different learning styles as possible.
The instructors at Scent Work University also teach in-person group dog training classes. They understand what exercises work best in certain situations as well as which potential modifications to suggest. This expertise is pulled upon when building and creating their online courses. By using a combination of detailed narration, informative video examples and helpful handouts, instructors are able to provide in-depth explanations of the various exercises, focusing not only on the hows but also the whys.
Experience detailed and individualized feedback when you enroll as a Student.
Students are granted access to a private Student Facebook Group for the courses they enroll in. This is where they may post their homework assignments and videos for the instructor to review and provide detailed feedback on.
Submit a video via email for the instructor to review when you enroll as an Auditor.
This enrollment option is the best of both worlds: no headaches regarding deadlines AND you can still receive individualized feedback from your instructor when you a submit a video of your choosing.
Enjoy the ultimate in convenience with the option to upgrade at any time when you enroll as a Watcher.
For those dog owners and handlers who are already swamped and super busy, the self-taught Watcher option allows for the ultimate in convenience. No deadlines to worry about, instead have full access to all the course materials and go through them at your leisure. Find that you would like some additional help or guidance from the instructor? You may purchase video reviews at any time or upgrade your enrollment the Auditor option, where in addition to the video review you will also have the ability to enjoy email support from the instructor.
As you can see, online dog training can indeed be quite effective and can grant dog handlers and owners access to highly experienced professional instructors and trainers they otherwise may be unable to work with.
Dianna has been training dogs professionally since 2011. She has done everything from teaching group training classes and private lessons, to specializing in working with fearful, reactive and aggressive dogs, to being a trial official and competition organization staff member.
Following a serious neck and back injury, Dianna was forced to retire from in-person dog training. But she was not ready to give up her passion! So, she created Pet Dog U, Dog Sport University and Scent Work University to provide outstanding online dog training to as many dog handlers, owners and trainers possible…regardless of where they live! Dianna is incredibly grateful to the amazingly talented group of instructors who have joined PDU, DSU and SWU and she looks forward to the continued growth of PDU, DSU and SWU and increased learning opportunities all of these online dog training platforms can provide.
In June 2021, Dianna and her business partner, Sean McMurray launched Cyber Scent Work, Inc., an organization that operates in the gray space between training and trialing in Scent Work. With Cyber Scent Work, Inc., handlers have the opportunity to earn Qs, titles and ribbons while also receiving helpful training advice regardless of whether they qualify or not! Be sure to check out Cyber Scent Work, Inc., you will be happy you did!
