NACSW: NW2 Trial Prep Course Instructor Lori Timberlake You and your dog will be ready to tackle your NW2 and feel confident doing so with the provided training and handling tips.

The NW2 Trial Prep class will mentally and physically prepare teams for NACSW™ NW2 trials. Some of the topics covered include training with distractions, searching for multiple hides and solving converging odor problems, how to read your dog sourcing an inaccessible hide, covering the search area, working under pressure as well as tips on how to prepare for the day of the trial will be covered.

Course Details

Congratulations! You’ve passed an NW1 trial and now you’re onto NW2. There are many new skills your team will need to tackle in this more difficult level including: moving on from hides, converging odor, inaccessible hides, distractors in containers and building stamina. We will cover all of these topics and more in this course.

That’s a lot of changes from NW1! No worries – this class will prepare you for whatever you might see in an NW2 trial so you can have a FUN and successful day with your best friend.

Team should have passed an NW1 trial.

What You Will Need

your dog
flat or martingale collar
back-clip harness (optional)
6'-8' leash
10-15' long line
LOTS of small, non-crumbly treats that YOUR dog finds rewarding
20-25 containers (cardboard, plastic or metals - at least the size of a shoe box)
Odor kit that includes: Birch, anise and clove, several hide vessels (tins, tubes, straws) and way to secure your hides (Museum Putty, Glue Dots, etc.)

I enjoyed the instructor, the short but effective lessons with regard to the challenges at the NW2 level, the lesson plans and exercises that address the challenges in the NW2 level. I have entered a second NW2 trial this spring in hopes of earning the title. We NQ'd in our first NW2 trial in the last thirty seconds of the last search. I just didn't get my dog into the scent cone for the third hide. Heartbreaking. But, learned a hard lesson that day. Have been working the skills and exercises in the lesson plans in preparation. It was a great class. I look forward to taking the NW3 trial prep class. I am a watcher, but appreciate the opportunity to submit a video or questions if I want to do so.
