Change can be hard. Changes in dog training can be very, very hard. Why? Because we are working with emotional creatures that often question the new and unexpected and respond with sad eyes and/or erratic behavior that can make us feel like the worst human beings on the planet. We know why we are doing things differently. We know we want what’s best for them. Our dogs, however, can only guess. Often when we try something new and get a confused response, we quit. It is easier for everyone just to go back to old ways and live in that comfortable space. This absolutely applies to handling in Nose Work. 

However, by staying in this comfort zone, we miss opportunities for growth and clearer communication which can truly benefit us as a Nose Work team; in both training and competition.
