Professionally training dogs since 2011, Dianna has been incredibly fortunate to work with countless dogs and handlers throughout her career, not to mention partner with and learn from exceptionally talented colleagues and professionals.
A Certified Training Partner through Karen Pryor Academy and a Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed through CCPDT, Dianna's initial specialty was working with dogs who were reactive, sensitive, fearful or aggressive. Intrigued by behavior, Dianna sought to better "see" and understand her canine clients, determining what they needed and how to best repair and deepen the relationship they had with their handler.
It was then that she stumbled upon Scent Work. She witnessed firsthand how this activity beautifully complemented behavior modification programs. Dogs were more confident and comfortable in their own skins. Handlers were overjoyed with how brilliant their dogs were. Dianna was hooked!
She dove headfirst, becoming a Certified Nose Work Instructor through NACSWâ„¢ and then had the privilege to be a staff member and trial official for USCSS and an approved Judge for AKC Scent Work.
Unfortunately, a serious neck and back injury forced her to retire from in-person training and officiating. Dianna did not give up. She instead pivoted and launched Scent Work University. The goal was to build a virtual platform allowing all handlers worldwide to have access to the same exceptional colleagues Dianna had had the privilege to work beside for years. Scent Work University has amassed an incredible international client base and continues to grow, for which Dianna is eternally thankful!
Always looking to offer more, Dianna added general dog training, behavior and dog sport training resources via her Pet Dog U program and is excited to see this program continue to grow.
Never satisfied, Dianna then co-founded a new Scent Work competition organization, Cyber Scent Work. The purpose was to provide a trialing option that worked for all dogs and teams. Modifications could be made to ensure every dog could showcase their amazing sniffing skills regardless of their experience level, access to local trialing opportunities or behavioral challenges.
With two distinct programs, Cyber Scent Work is all about customization and making choices that best fit a given team. The Cyber Sniffing Games tests the skills of the dog whereas the Traditional Cyber Scent Work Program tests the skills of the dog, handler and team as a unit. Handlers may opt to participate virtually or to work with an approved Cyber Scent Work Evaluator. In-person assessments may be part of a group dog training class, a small event or a full fledge trial. The response to Cyber Scent Work has been phenomenal and the possibilities for growth are endless.
Constantly on the lookout to offer more learning opportunities, Dianna regularly invites new instructors and professionals to share their knowledge, while promoting the premise that all dogs should be playing the sniffing game!
