Come take a deep dive with Sue Sternberg to learn more about displacement sniffing as it relates to Scent Work. Handlers can find it easier to recognize displacement sniffing in situations such during an agility run or an interaction between two or more dogs. But what about during a Scent Work search? If our dogs are already sniffing to find their hides, how can we tell if and when they are all of a sudden taking a cigarette break? Or sniffing target odor and then dog odor?!
Are there any clues? Are there any triggers? And most importantly, can we avoid the triggers and help our dogs when they might be feeling a tad overwhelmed?
Come explore this important topic with Sue as she shares videos and dissects discrete behaviors in and out of Scent Work. The goal is to help identify what to look for and how handlers can respond before, during and after to better help their dogs enjoy this amazing sport!

WHAT OUR CLIENTS ARE SAYING
"Really helped me understand my environmentally sensitive dog." Shirley W.
"As always Sue presents her information in a way that helps me understand something from the dog's point of view. I also always enjoy her sense of humour :) :)" Pat R.
"Sue is always a great presenter and her video examples are wonderful, and thankfully a lot of them!" Rene F.
“I loved looking at the video footage to see the difference in dog odor sniffing, displacement fake sniffing, alert behavior and odor behavior. I loved hearing Sue discuss the video footage as we were watching it.” Debra H.
"Really loved the last segment where Nog stops sniffing to stare, and her suggestions for handling those difficult situations. Also, I learned I’ve been potty walking wrong for years!!!
Instead of trying to practice my handling during our pee walks, I need to practice interrupting dog distraction behavior and refocusing my dog on me, rewarding when he does with a treat. Who knew? Well, probably you and lots of folks" Sharee N.
“This was probably my favorite webinar I’ve purchased through Scent Work University. It touched me on many levels and will definitely be one I revisit again and again. My biggest takeaway was the reminder that we can support our dogs in a truly partnership-focused way. We don’t need to force them to act in ways that make sense to us as humans — instead, we can use our own body language to support them in ways that make sense to them as dogs navigating our human world. As an instructor, I already emphasize using body language rather than relying only on verbal cues, but Sue’s perspective added a whole new dimension to this. Her insights also gave me clarity about the moments when our wants and needs may be in opposition to our dogs’, and how to recognize when it is (and isn’t) appropriate to “take over” during a search. I really appreciate Sue’s compassionate yet unapologetic approach. The content was insightful, practical, and deeply moving — and I know it will influence how I teach and how I support my students’ partnerships with their dogs.” Elizabeth F.
