  • Let's Chat: Finding Balance - Supporting, Covering and Directing

    Apr 24, 2026

Scent Work is all about teamwork and finding balance. We want our dogs to be committed to use their amazing sense of smell to work the area and find their hides. Yet we must also cover our search area. Additionally, there are times we as the handler will want to make suggestions or even direct the dog. However, we do not want to overstep our bounds which can cause the dog to then defer to us or disengage in the search nor do we want hang our dogs out to dry!

In this livestream, we will discuss all of this with Judith Guthrie of Nose Dogs Detection Services about striking this balance, how to determine if you are out of balance and common pitfalls to avoid.
