30 years of experience
Karin Apfel has been passionate about dogs and training for over 30 years and has been involved in a wide variety of sports from IGP, herding, obedience and Rally to the adrenaline of flyball and agility. Most recently, she has been deeply involved in the development of the sport of detection in Canada, as both a competitor and President of the Sporting Detection Dogs Association, now in its 10th year.
Through many seminars and other training with law enforcement and sport professionals, and experience as an explosives detection dog handler, she combines her enthusiasm for and history in the sport with real life knowledge of scent detection dogs.
In her training career, Karin has introduced thousands of dogs of various breeds to the sport of detection and has competed with five of her own dogs. Currently, she is campaigning a young German Shepherd/Dutch Shepherd cross, Felix and her rescue Rottweiler, 4-year-old Kilo, at the Elite Level, after achieving his MACH at age 3.
